Looking for a great day with the Grandkids? Or the Grandparents? Or just a fun way to feed your model train addiction? Mark your calendar for February 16th and 17th, 2024.
The great CRMHA MODEL TRAIN EXPO is coming to town!
We have trains of all sizes, from tiny to massive. We have T and Z scale layouts that can fit in a briefcase. We have 7 ½ inch gauge locomotives that are 6 feet long. We have Garden Scale and N Scale. We have classic tinplate (Lionel and American Flyer), and beautifully scenic HO layouts. We have dealers selling everything railroad from antique to modern, and from circus figures to the latest digital technology.
We have a dedicated Kid Zone, where children can operate Thomas the Tank Engine and his friend Percy, put together Brio trains, color pictures, and create new worlds in their heads.
We set it all up in the Rock Springs Church Impact Center, a great triple gymnasium with ample parking and a free shuttle in case the close-in spots are all taken. Look for CRMHA volunteers in red shirts and Impact Center staff to direct you and tell you about the different layouts.
One admission gets you in both days. ($8 for adults. Children under 10 are free.) It’s the best train show, and the best deal, in the region. Come see us, and enjoy a great hobby for all ages.

The Kids Zone
The Kids Zone is always popular.Children can operate Thomas the Tank Engine and his friend Percy, as they charge around our purpose-built G-scale track.
They get hands-on time with Brio, and train-themed coloring books.
Parents get an opportunity to sit and watch them create their own worlds of imagination. Those of us who love the sounds of happy children have the best time of all.
The OVLS (Owens Valley Live Steamers) portable layout was built by Charles Mote and Bruce Gathman. It features spectacular 1:32 scale live steam engines and detailed rolling stock on G-gauge (45mm) track. The layout is seen at various shows throughout the region, and nationally at the NMRA National Train Show and the National Narrow Gauge convention. The trains seen in the video are a Union Pacific 4-8-4 Northern, a Norfolk and Western 4-8-4 (the famous No. 611), and a C&O 2-8-4 Kanawha.
We are the Yadkin & Catawba Model Railroad Club headquartered at the Newton Depot’s Model Railroad Center, 1111 North Main Ave., Newton, NC. We are an O-gauge modular model railroad club traveling to train shows and other events from Greensboro & Winston-Salem in the east to Asheville in the west to Greenville, SC in the south and places in between. We originated in Winston-Salem as the Piedmont-Triad Model Railroad Club, but decided to reorganize because our members come from a broader geographical area. Hence in April 2017, we and our original sponsor – The Train Loft in Winston-Salem – created our current club. So if you have any interest in running O-gauge trains and/or building a show module please join us.
Where else can you find modern bullet trains, classic steamers, a dragon, a brilliantly detailed materials handling operation, and a giant donut with sprinkles, all on one layout? N-scale has enough room for everything. The Piedmont & Southern AND Northeast Georgia N-Scale clubs bring one of the most spectacular and extensive modular layouts to our show every year. They have mixed freights, unit trains, a classic New York Central passenger train, and eye-candy everywhere.
