The Central Railway Model & Historical Association
The Central Railway Museum is a project of CRM&HA, Inc. with strong support from the Town of Central SC. Our mission is to educate and inspire people of all ages who share a love of trains. CRM&HA's mission is to promote understanding and enjoyment of railroad heritage in America, particularly in the Carolina's.
Our annual train show is held in February in Upstate South Carolina, featuring 2-days of operating layouts in various scales, and vendors with pretty much anything you can think of for both model and real railroads.
The museum includes a large dual-level HO layout, a pair of "heritage" layout in classic toy train scales, a small coffee table style N Scale layout, and a LGB (G Scale) loop around the inside of the museum. We are currently building a brand new modular HO scale layout, based on the popular FreeMo standards, which when completed it will be exhibited at several events per year. A garden layout is also being planned as a future display.
Central Railway Museum is the largest model train museum in upstate South Carolina!
Central Railway Museum includes a "heritage" layout in classic toy train scales and a large dual-level HO layout which recreates railroading in the western Carolinas and Georgia during the 1950s - an era of transition from steam to diesel. Trestles and tunnels add the interest level, as does a narrow-gauge logging railroad.
Future plans also include a garden layout. The facility is owned by the Town of Central and is leased to CRM&HA, Inc. The city conducted exterior renovations and paved the parking lot, while CRM&HA has completely renovated the interior. Over the last year CRM&HA volunteers put over 1400 man-hours into interior renovations, opening up the floor plan and replacing an antiquated electrical system. Construction of layouts has been conducted over the last few months. CRM&HA, Inc. is also meeting regularly in this facility.
